Nothing is worse than one of your favorite shows, one that you’ve spent so much time with, is cancelled. Actually, it can get worse if the network pulls the plug and we’re left with a major cliffhanger, like (insert a TON of shows here). Luckily that WON’T be the case with ‘Scandal’.
Admittedly, I’ve been dreading the news released today. What was one of the most sensational shows of the past couple years is about to reach it’s end. Here’s the twist though, creator Shonda Rhimes, and not parent company ABC, has decided Olivia Pope’s storyline is done. For fans, that’s a relief, as she can end it exactly like she wants to and tie up the loose ends. We’ll know if Abby and David end up together, or Huck and Quinn, or, groan, Liv and Fitz. And what will be Rowan’s fate? Not like any of us want to see it end, but at least we know we won’t be left hanging unexpectedly.
Scandal was a viral sensation from the get go with shocking story lines week after week that took over the twittersphere. The show became true “MUST SEE TV” as EVERYONE was buzzing about it, and if you missed it, well, you just didn’t. That’s easily why I got hooked.
However, I must say I’m not overly surprised by the news for a couple reasons. The ratings show we’ve really started to fade from the show. I know I’m not as glued as I was in previous seasons. The storyline really has dragged for a while. And with a new White House, I just couldn’t see this going on too much longer, no matter what Cyrus and Millie do. Apparently I’m not the only one.
The other biggie, and usually a death sentence, is the show just hit it’s 100th episode milestone. This means it’s available for syndication now. Good time to call it quits, and still rake in the dough.
There was also that incident last summer where GMA misspoke, reporting season 6 was going to be the final. Shonda countered stating she only knew HOW the story would wrap, but not WHEN. However, Trump becoming president may have altered that a bit.
Nothing will be official until ABC’s big meeting next week, as it’s the time of year we learn the fate of all our shows. From what we’ve heard, Shonda’s other two shows, “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How To Get Away With Murder” are safe, as is “The Middle.” Meanwhile, we know that “Time After Time” is done, and “Conviction” and “Notorious” are likely to follow. Next week is also when we should get all the details about American Idol’s return.
Till then, pour the wine, and lets enjoy what’s left.
