It is with bittersweet emotion that I am looking forward to my annual Memorial Day Weekend camping & float trip down the Black River new Lesterville, MO!This will be year #14! It all started with 4 of us, my bro Mike and a few other buddies and that’s where we met Chief! How to discribe Chief? Wow! I do not have enough space on this website to do that…Chief was a one of a kind. Every Mem Day Wknd our group (which had grown to some 35 people one year) would make our way to the usual campground and there he was! Good old Chief..no matter how many times we tried to stay in touch with him the rest of the year (and it never worked…he never stayed in one place very long) he always greeted us with a hardy “Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”!

Ususally the 2 or three days leading up to the “Lester-Town” trip were filled with anxiety and pure glee to see some old friends, drink plenty of cold ones and once again lose all stresses with a great float in a shiny aluminum canoe. Unfortunatly, we lost Chief to Cancer. We were not able to attend his funeral, so this weekend will be a combination of joy and pain as we make a stop by the cemetery. Then we will spend the rest of the weekend remembering all of the funny Chief jokes (most, no all of which i can NOT repeat inthis blog or on-air! lol) stories and looking back at some great pics (i.e. Chief riding a cow thru Turtle Meadow).

I have been blessed to have never lost a close friend, thank goodness, but even know we only saw each other for 4 days out of the year…Cheif will be truly and sadly missed. He could make an entire room drop to the ground with laughter…mostly at his expense!

I can’t wait to sit up all night laughing till I hurt with my friends Nat & Richie and ofcourse my brother Mike…I can;t wait for that float and to hear Ben Wah Bob play the same songs again as they did the year before (this time with a different Ozzy cover lol) I can;t wait to remember our good old friend Chief.
