Thank you for facilitating the radiothon for the Children’s Hospital. We spent many weeks at the hospital when my daughter, Bailey, was diagnosed with Leukemia in Feb. 2001 at the age of 2. Thanks to the doctors, nurses, food service, secretaries, etc., Bailey started 7th grade last week. As a matter of fact, my wife just texted me and Bailey just made the volleyball team. MIRACLES DO HAPPEN. Thanks to God and everyone at Children’s Hospital, my daughter is alive today and the picture of health. Please give what you can, because I can attest, it helps more than words can say. Thanks again.

My son Kaleb has had asthma his whole life. Two years ago when he was 9, he went with his dad (who is an assistant basketball coach at Westminster College) and the Westminster basketball team to a game in Warrensburg. Prior to game time, my son was playing with other kids in the gym while my husband was with the team going through pre-game warm-ups. Kaleb started to have an asthma attack. This was not anything new for Kaleb, especially that time of year and seasonal allergies. My husband gave Kaleb a puff of his inhaler, but it didn’t seem to help. He gave him another treatment, but Kaleb’s condition continued to deteriorate. My husband called me on my cell phone and told me Kaleb was having an asthma attack. Fortunately, I just pulled into the Warrensburg parking lot. Kaleb and my husband were waiting for my at the front door. At first glance, Kaleb didn’t seem to be having too much labor breathing. Typically when he had trouble from an asthma attack, his shoulders would go up and down as he tried to get air in….when I first saw him he wasn’t doing that. What I didn’t know is Kaleb was past that point. Things started to happen very fast. His body was starting to shut down. He eyes started to roll back in his head and he started to not respond to noise. We called 911 and the ambulance took him to the Warrensburg emergency room. They soon realized they could not handle Kaleb’s condition and contacted the MU Children’s Hospital. Long story short the Life Flight team came to Warrensburg to pick-up Kaleb. The minute they showed up I started to have a new sense of relief and hope. Their expertise was evident and calming at a time of fear. When we got to Children’s Hospital, we were greeted and immediately directed to Kaleb’s ICU room. There we found Kaleb on a ventilator, sedated and a team of experts in his room. As we waited for Kaleb to wake up from the sedative, his doctor waited with us and answered all the questions we had. Kaleb was in ICU for one week. During that week, the care and education we received about Kaleb’s asthma and food allergies was amazing. Today, Kaleb is alive, happy, and healthy. If it wasn’t for the Life Flight Team and the experts at MU’s Children’s Hospital, Kaleb would not be here today. Kaleb is my miracle, but so are the staff at Children’s Hospital. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Kristie and Floyd Davis & Family

Thank you, Zimmer Radio Group, for your constant and strong support for the Children’s Hospital. All of your stations do such a wonderful job making the community aware of our wonderful Children’s Hospital always do such a wonderful job helping raise money but I must give extra kudos to Cosmo & JC because they put all their heart and soul into every event that raises money for the Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network. It’s not just a 1x a year deal but all year long. Everyone who has a heart should be able to understand how important the Children’s Hospital is even more so if you are a parent. But when you have a child who is a patient there, it means so much more to see how the love and support the community extends to this wonderful place. A year ago my newborn baby stayed in NICU at Columbia Regional for 7 days due to an infection in her blood and pneumonia. It was very stressful and extremely terrifying but at the same time I was fortunate because although she was very sick the first few days and had a feeding tube, she was not nearly as sick as so many of the other babies. It was heartwrenching to see how small some of those babies were next to her and so sad to see how much things could change in a split second but on the other hand I was absolutely amazed by the caring and generosity given by each and every nurse in the NICU. I was in the Unit almost constant and met a lot of the nurses and did not come across one that was not compassionate and loving to each and every baby and to every family member. They were there for the tears, to give a hug when needed and give the reassuring words when needed. I also knew that the times I had to leave for a short time that my girl was in the best hands possible. The doctors were also the best. They didn’t hesitate to sit down next to me and explain everything going on with my baby and answer every single question I had without acting impatient. I am so happy that the Children’s Hospital is able to move all the units to Columbia Regional and provide all the extras such as the private rooms. For all those out there that have not donated and don’t think you have the “extra” cash……give up that daily morning coffee, or a couple soda or better yet take the money you would spend on lunch and give it to CMN for just 1 day. Every penny makes a difference………BELIEVE IT!!!! Just think about the smile you could be putting on a child’s face or the extra equipment your change could help buy that would save a life of a baby or a sick child.
