Ok, my jinx is that if I fall in love with a new TV show…it will be cancelled! Easily over 74% of the new(er) tv shows that I love end up getting the axe from the networks.  I loved Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip..GONE! I really liked Life on Mars…ADIOS! NBC’s Life is a great show..it too will prob not be back DOH!  Another great show that my wife and I both watched religiously was Journeyman…also on NBC (hmmm there’s a theme here huh?).

Now there have been many other shows that I dig that are still on the air..Big Brother, Survivor, The First 48, Damages and Nip/Tuck are must watches!  A couple others were amazing and I was sad to see the series end like Sopranos and The Shield.

My question is a 2 parter…what show(s) did you absolutely love and it got whacked?  and what new TV shows are on your “Must Watch” list every week?

I’ve been limping around for a lot longer that I thought I would be. See, I recently went to go workout at Wilson’s, and I stepped up to the treadmill. I’m no stranger to cardio – I love it! Normally, I go about a half-hour. This time, I thought, I was going to go for an hour. I was inspired by the contestants on the Biggest Loser. I could do it. I was on fire.

The run started out simply. I plugged in my iPod and started plugging away at mile #1. Within a couple of minutes, the woman in front of me changed the channel to VH1’s Rock of Love Tour Bus. “Hell yeah!” I thought. “An hour will be nothing!!” I unplugged my iPod and switched my headphones to the aweful-but-sooooo-entertaining reality mess. Things were good. I didn’t push myself too hard.

As my hour was wrapping up, I felt really good! During the last commercial break in the show (the episode featuring the first annual Redneck games, LOL), a promo came on for VH1’s Tool Academy – which I also watch – next up. I was already DVR-ing it at home, and like I said I was feeling really good on the treadmill. So, I decided to stick it out and do the treadmill for another hour while I watched my show.

I DIDN’T WANT TO HURT MYSELF, so I purposely walked quickly during the show-parts of the 2nd hour, and ran fast during the commerical breaks. I assumed my quads would hurt, but I was kind-of looking forward to it. Tight quads are normally a good hurt, to me.

My quads were not the issue. Rather, my quads ARE not the issue. It’s my ankles. I never would have thought that I’d strain my ANKLES – how wimpy is that?!  That deserves to be ask again: HOW WIMPY IS THAT?! Man, I AM getting old. I’ve been limping – on both feet – for 5 days now. Ridiculous…

If anyone asks me what happened, my standard reply is, “It’s not impressive.” This never seems to satisfy, so I normally then say, “I stayed on a treadmill too long”, which prompts a lot of laughter. Many people have instructed me to come up with a better story.

A liar, I’m not. A good storyteller, I am. So, I decided to atleast make it a good story. Here’s how it “happened…”

There was a burning building. I heard screams. I ran in and found a bunch of defenseless babies. I scooped all of them up in my safe, net-like arms. I fought the smoke and flames, heading for the safety of outside, when I heard whimpering. I looked to my left through the rubble and thats where I saw them – a mother dog sheltering her newborn puppy from the flames.

With my arms full, I channeled the Dog Whisperer, communicating with the mum what had to be done.

Instinctively, both she and her pup bit about my ankles, savaging the flesh and gnashing the bone. I winced in pain but did not cry out as to not further frighten the babies. I kept safe hold of all the babies, who had been crying but seemed now entranced with the ankle-meat-fest just a meter below.

I trudged on. Walking with the sheer determination you only see in movies – much like the Terminator when he knew he was oh-so close to Sarah Conner. Through the smoke and sweat, I robotically, emphatically marched to the beat of my own drummer. The song was “We are the Champions,” and as I reached the safety of the afternoon sun outside that fire-ravaged building, I knew I was.

My ankles woudn’t be the same ever again – not for a couple of weeks at least – but I knew it was worth it the second the mother dog began to lick my gnarled ankle. A thank you? Did she understand? I will never know. What I do know is both mother and dog-child were safe, as were the half dozen-or-so babies I had plucked from the horrors inside the fire-ravaged death trap behind me.

Death was everywhere that sunny day, but it was not with me. I laughed in its face and barked “Not today!”, as its retreated… off to find someone else – someone… weak.

So that’s it. That’s how it happened. You probably didn’t hear about it because the fire spread to all other media buildings in town expect mine, so no-one could report on it. Y107 could have, but until now, it was just too soon to recall. The wounds, still too raw (both literally and metaphorically). Surely you understand.

OK..thank God Nick, Norman, Normund gentle is gone buh-bye, adios, c-ya later! BUT, we do have to endure Tatianna Del Toro for at least one more night.  You gotta love the fact that the live audience laughed at her last night as she giggles and quivered her way thru the live interview with Ryan Seacrest (who I still love the fact that HE was high fived by the blind guy Scott!  absolutely histerical!!!)

So 8 people have new life…at least for a while.  The 4 judges (still weird saying 4 judges) will decide which of the 3 will be saved.  My picks are  Anoop, Jasmine & Matt…I know Matt’s Cold Play the other night was HORRIBLE! But I think he can do so much better.

This whole Nick or Norman BS has got to stop! I will admit the guy does have a decent voice but the producers have got to stop this whole headband, silky shirt and now tux jacket stuff? Really? Huh?

Can he just please be NickMitchell!  I want to see what this guy can really do without having to rely on his circus side-show business.  Hopefully America does NOT vote to pass him thru or the judges don;t save him with the Wild Card!

OK, so I don’t watch Oprah (if you listen to our show, you know I don’t mind saying if I did), but pretty much everyone knows that once a year Oprah does a show called her “Favorite Things.”

During these shows, the audience goes donkey-bonkers because she gives away a sample of every – single – one of her favorite things to each and every person in her audience. That, may I say, is awesome. Seriously… that is awesome!

It got me thinking, why not do a list of my own? I’ll probably be adding to this list as I think of more, but I think with even a few minutes of head-scratching I could come up with a few easily…

Lately, on Facebook, I keep getting tagged with the “One Word” note. If you haven’t seen it yet, basically it asks you to describe several things in your life using only one word.

You get the idea.

Sweats (or in my case – “loathe” LOL).

So………. Rather than just copy the note from Facebook for my blog (as that is lame), I figured I’d steal the idea and tweek it (not tweet it, that’s a different website).

I’d like you to think about your childhood. Growing up in general. It’s too difficult to file decades of life into one word, so I’m going to allow 3 words.

Did you know that the average toilet seat is 400 times cleaner than your desk? Or that there are more than 10 million germs on the average desktop? But how can that be, when either you or someone else is cleaning your desk every day?

For starters, workers who diligently wipe down their desktops are essentially just giving germs a free ride, says Dr. Charles Gerba — aka “Dr. Germ” — a microbiologist at the University of Arizona, who conducted a study on germs in the workplace. Instead, you have to kill them on the spot using a disinfectant or sanitizer.

For his study, Gerba and his team collected samples from private offices and cubicles in Tucson, Ariz., and Washington, D.C. The study, funded by The Clorox Co., tested more than 616 surfaces in the office and deduced which harbored the most germs. Then, they studied surfaces in the workplaces of people in different professions to determine which were the “germiest.”

Here are five of the germiest jobs, in order from most to least germy, and how they stacked up to each other.

1.   Teacher

Average amount of bacteria per square inch: 17,800

Why it’s germy:  Kids’ desktops are probably the dirtiest object in a classroom. Additionally, when children turn in tests and assignments, they hand in germs, too. Teachers had 5 1/2  times more germs on their phones, nearly twice as many germs on their computer mice and nearly 27 times more germs on the computer keys than other professions studied in a survey done by researchers at the University of Arizona.

2.   Accountant

Average amount of bacteria per square inch: 6,030

Why it’s germy: Accountants tend to spend a great deal of time behind their desks, which as previously mentioned often retain the most germs. Accountants’ desks and pens ranked No. 1 in the study as most germy, averaging 12,600 and 2,350 bacteria per square inch, respectively.

3.   Banker

Average amount of bacteria per square inch: 5,400

Why it’s germy: Everyone knows how dirty money is. When you think about the one core duty of bankers — handling money — it’s no surprise the germs bankers come in contact with. Surfaces used by bankers came in third behind teachers and accountants as having the most bacteria. Compared with other professions, however, bankers had the least germy computer keyboards.

4. Radio DJ

Average amount of bacteria per square inch: 3,323

Why it’s germy: Radio DJs often work in shifts, with several people coming in and out of the station a day. It’s doubtful that each of these people disinfects every button, switch, control and headset in between their shift and the next person’s. As we said before, an infected person can leave a trail of viruses on every surface he touches — so many people using the same equipment is bound to garner a lot of bacteria.

5. Doctor

Average amount of bacteria per square inch: 2,620

Why it’s germy: As professionals who serve sick people, it’s no surprise doctors are their own source of germs. Likely culprits for carrying germs are the medical charts that switch so many hands each day, which is why many health care facilities are pushing for electronic medical records. 

Two words summed up last nights show “Song Choice”. You would think by now that if you are a contestant on American Idol and you recieved your golden ticket and moved on to Hollywood that you would be very careful to choose your song carefully!

Here are a few questions I had while watching America Idol….

What was bikini girl (Katrina Darrell) wearing? I really don’t think Kara likes her at all…and OMG what was up with that nasty, sloppy open mouth kiss she slathered all over Seacrest’s face? nasty!

Enough already with the Norman-Nick thing!  There is no way that that guy should have ever been passed on to Hollywood.  I do think he can sing…but that gimmic has got to end NOW! and what did Randy say “He was Banoodles”? what the heck does that mean? LOL

Danny and his Seal “Kiss From A Rose” was great.  I am sorry he lost his wife, but it is time to stop bringing up that very sad story. His buddy Jamar also moves on…

I like Anoop-Dog and Rose. I wish they would have shown Arianna (grand-friend girl) more but she is also advancing (again I predict Top 10 for her!!!)

Von Smith is a litte over the top…I am not so sure they should have moved him on…but he knows he needs to reign it in.

I cannot wait to do my taxes. I am blessed that, growing up, my parents were tax accountants. Although April 15th equals fear for the maority of Americans, all it ever meant for me growing up was that I didn’t see my parents much for a couple of months (they worked a lot around tax time).

Now that my parents are retired, I think they are pretty *done* with doing taxes (although I think they still enjoy them). Thankfully, my brother in law is also an accountant-type, and is kind enough to take me under his protecive tax wing every year. Yep – April 15th is always an exciting time to me, simply because of the rufund!! Even growing up with 2 accountants in-house, I know NOTHING of taxes. Sure I’ve heard of W2’s and I-9’s, 1040 E-Z’s and Earned Income Credit, but who really knows what that crud means?!

I really came to appreciate my brother in law’s (and my parents’) tax knowledge a couple of weeks ago… A friend’s facebook status said he was trying to figure out his taxes and he was losing his mind. I felt bad for him, and soooooooo thankful to be able to be ignorant of how it all works.

So that brings me to this year. I bought a house in Columbia last March, so this will be my first tax-time as a home owner. My friends without houses tell me I should get ready for a HUGE refund. My friends that *do* own homes tell me it’s more, but don’t get too excited. Anyhoo… I can’t wait to get my refund back, no matter how big or small. Daddy needs a little economic stimulus!!

I’m gonna pay off my credit card FIRST (thank God – as the son of 2 accountants, that debt has been weighing heavily on my conscience). Second, if there is anything left over (come oooooooooon, BIG check I keep haring about!!), then I am *finally* going to buy the new couch I’ve been wanting for months. Got’ daaaaang I want a new couch!!

Unfortunately, it seems I will be needing a new Mac in the coming months (or days??). Mine is 3 years old and seems near death. Boo. A new Mac would be nice, but it’s not in the budget. I guess I’ll be financing that… it’s the American thing to do. You’re welcome, Steve Jobs. Get well soon.

Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Anger, Sloth, Lust, Greed.  That’s it.  Those are the 7.  Care to pick which ones I surrendered to on Super Bowl Sunday (the Sabbath ironically)?

We’ll start easy, with Anger (the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury, aka Wrath).  I was rooting for the Cardinals.  I screamed (quite loudly) with anger at the TV when the cardinals turned the ball over, when Warner fumbled, and when Holmes made the final toe-touching TD.  Anger check.

Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.  The most physical work I did all day?  See above.  However, I did say the Lord’s name a few times so this could be a draw, but overall…Sloth check.

Lust.  An inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.  If I was the only guy visiting Go Daddy or reaching for some Doritos after their commercials aired then the other guys are lying (which is also a sin).  Lust check.

Envy.  The desire for others’ traits, status, abilities, or situation.  I didn’t so much partake as I did create.  I have a 50′ Plasma HDTV.  The biggest of all my friends (as of right now).  They were all envious, I know you read this and you were lol.  Envy check.

Pride, from the TV, could give me another point.  But whatever.

Gluttony.  The desire to consume more than that which one requires.  I made a football stadium out of food, seriously.  Estimated caloric intake for the whole thing hovers around 23,000 calories.  I ate wings, Twinkies, cookies, several types of dip, cupcakes, chips, a football made of chocolate, and lets not forget the beer.  Gluttony a big fat check.

As far as Greed goes…I wanted to win the money in our Super Bowl game.  But we’ll let that one slide.

As a news junkie, I was wondering – where do YOU get your news from?

I don’t want to affect your answers by telling you what recent surveys of the American public have gauged, but it doesn’t take a news-hound to realize your options for news outlets are growing everyday.

Is it with Shelley Tucker Y107 every morning (it better be, LOL!)? Your local news on TV? National television or radio? Your local newspaper? National papers? Entertainment magazines (like People, US Weekly, etc)? Your phone? Word of mouth? Or the web? Multiple outlets? Maybe you don’t care and prefer to be unplugged?

For those who will answer with the web (for all or part of their response), I am curious to learn which ones? Personally, I use many different avenues for my news-hunting. I won’t say which ones now because I don’t want to influence your answers, but I *do* think your feedback will be useful in how I prepare for the Cosmo and JC Radio Show (and be really interesting, speaking as a confessed news-junkie)!!

It is back! American Idol…Season 8 got off to quite a start in the 106′ temps of Phoenix.

OK, so new judge Kara DioGuardi made her long awaited debut.  I was cool with her, she handled the “Bikini Girl” deal pretty well. They are really playing up the Kara & Paula as BFFs huh?

I called it and also said it on-air on Tuesday morning Arianna, the 16 year-old girl who adopts Grand-Friends at the nursing home…she nailed “Put Your Records On” and I say Top 10!

Were you as shocked as I was with the slasher film kid? He could really sing and they gave him his golden ticket too!

I did feel real bad for greasy little Michael Gurr (even before he passed out!) Then there was X-ray lol and Pink Cowboy Girl(who was a Kara stalker WOW) Oh yeah, rocker Randy! He kind of looked like a long lost member of Poison lol sheesh.

Was “Sexual Chocolate” spelled right on that dude’s tattoo? i need to go back and look at the DVR lol

The final moment that I couldn’t believe was when Seacrest tried to high-five the blind guy, Scott MacIntyre after he got his golden ticket!  Really? why did the producers leave that on? lol
